Injections
Our orthopedic doctors may recommend cortisone or steroid injections to reduce pain from inflammation in the joints, bursa and tendons. These injections are given at our locations in The Woodlands, Woodforest and Spring and typically take no more than 30 minutes.
ULTRASOUND GUIDED INJECTIONS FOR GREATER ACCURACY
One way we are able to increase the accuracy of the injection is by using ultrasound technology during the procedure. When ultrasound is used, a small probe attached to a video monitor is pressed against the skin–similar to the device used to see a fetus in a pregnant mother. The probe is placed next to the body part to be injected. Once your doctor has identified the anatomic landmarks, the injection is administered while watching the needle with the ultrasound. Ultrasound is an excellent way to visualize fluids which means your doctor can identify whether the fluid being injected is in the proper location. This is especially important with injections that may be in a more anatomically difficult location, such as a hip joint.
