The passion for orthopedic excellence and injury prevention led the doctors at Sterling Ridge Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine to create Sterling Ridge Sports Medicine Center. Dr. William Hayes and Dr. Keith Johnson diagnose and perform surgery to correct injury, while the skilled physical therapists at Sterling Ridge Sports Medicine Center (SRSMC) treat and condition patients to help prevent future injury. Our physical therapy staff was hand-selected by the doctors. The physical therapists work as a team with the doctors to create a conservative, structured rehabilitation program designed specifically for each patient’s needs. With over 60 years of experience, Derek and Clint run the SRSMC and implement the injury-prevention programs that make their center unique.
While many orthopedic practices recognize the effectiveness of injury prevention training, few actually implement programs that help train athletes to prevent injuries. This unique belief has led the doctors at SROSM and their team of highly-qualified physical therapists to design several programs for athletes. The Prevent Injury, Enhance Performance Program (PEP) is a strategic training program designed to decrease the number of ACL injuries in soccer players. This conditioning program is available to area coaches and trainers at no cost and the principles of the PEP program are often employed in the treatment of other types of ACL injuries as well. The Titlist Performance Institute (TPI) is designed for core strengthening balance and coordination in golfers, ultimately leading to increased game performance. Both programs are invaluable for athletes of all skill levels and ages. The PEP program has been implemented at Texas A&M University in the female soccer team, and coaches have reported an 88% decrease in ACL injuries. Our physical therapists also offer conditioning exercise programs for all types of sports. Examples are shoulder and back strengthening for swimmers and the Skiers Edge machine and exercises to prepare for the rigors of the ski season.
“Our programs focus on normalizing and improving an athlete’s flexibility, stability and strength,” said Derek Lund, PT, ATC. “Our goal, no matter if we are talking about physical rehabilitation or any other service we offer, is to get the athlete back to their sport as soon as possible to participate safely and at peak performance. Each program is tailored to each patient’s needs.”
When surgical management of an injury is recommended, Dr. Hayes and Dr. Johnson pride themselves in performing the most current and minimally invasive arthroscopic procedures. Their conservative approach allows for faster recovery while experiencing less discomfort, and excellent results with a fast return to high-level sports participation.
“In the greater Houston area, there are five physical therapists that I would trust with my operative patients. We have two of those five here at SRSMC. Having such high quality therapists maximizes the outcome following surgery. The patient heals faster and enjoys a much faster recovery and return to normal activity without pain,” explains Dr. Hayes.
The SROSM office has state-of-the-art equipment including an open MRI machine (ACR Accredited), same-day imaging, an on-site surgery center, and modern bracing and casting materials. Sterling Ridge Sports Medicine Center is conveniently located right across the street from SROSM.
Our doctors and our physical therapy staff have a strong commitment to our patients. As a team, weprovide the highest quality of orthopaedic treatment and diligent and compassionate care. Our passion for each patient’s positive outcome is what sets SROSM and SRSMC apart as well as our passion for excellence in all phases of orthopedic medicine.
